Avro Vulcan B2 Blue Steel XL427 of the Scampton Wing at Woodford in August 1965 having arrived back at Avros for a retrofit. 427 had been delivered to No 83 Squadron in October 1962 but the arrival of centralised servicing at Scampton in 1963 pooled the station's aircraft and individual squadron markings were removed. 427 is fitted with a Red Steer radome robbed from an aircraft that had already been camouflaged. During its retrofit, 427 was strengthened for low-level operations, fitted with additional jammers, received an in-flight refuelling probe and A & E bomb bay fuel tanks. It was repainted in camouflage finish and returned to Scampton in April 1966.
