Avro Vulcan B1As XH505 and XH502 of the Waddington Wing at RAF Luqa in May 1964 during Exercise Sunspot. B1s were converted to B1As between 1960 and 1963. They reentered service in anti-flash white with pale national markings. At the time this photograph was taken, the Vulcan fleet was being camouflaged for low-level operations. Whereas the B2s underwent considerable wing strengthening, the B1As did not and consequently had additional speed limitations imposed during low-level flight.
