Avro Vulcan B2 XM649, formerly of No 101 Squadron, awaiting the breakers at RAF St Athan circa 1982. 649 was delivered to No IX Squadron in May 1964 and merged into the Coningsby, later Cottesmore Wing (November 1964). Transferred to Waddington in January 1968, 649 was eventually allocated to No IX Squadron in April 1976 and No 101 Squadron in July 1979. It was retired to St Athan in September 1981 and sold for scrap the following year.

As a fairly early casualty of Waddington's Vulcan run down, it seems that 649's Mk2 Red Steer tail warning radar (radome at the back) was robbed and a Mk1 radome fitted - from an [ex-Scampton?] aircraft that had received the ultimate camouflage scheme.
