Vulcan B2 XJ783 of No 617 Squadron at RAF Marham in June 1979. 783 was delivered to No 83 Squadron at Scampton in March 1961. In November 1982, 783 was transferred to IX Squadron that was forming at RAF Coningsby as 83 Squadron's aircraft were replaced by B2 Blue Steels. As new 301-engined aircraft began to arrive at Coningsby, 783 was transferred to No 230 OCU at RAF Finningley in February 1964. In September that year, 783 returned to the manufacturers for a retrofit and it was not until January 1966 that it reentered service with the Waddington Wing. In March 1968, 783 was exchanged with the Cottesmore Wing which moved to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus in January 1969. In January 1975, 783 returned to the UK (Scampton) with No 35 Squadron, transferring to No 617 Squadron in November 1978. 783 returned to 35 Squadron in April 1981 and was scrapped the following year.
