Surplus to requirements, 445 was converted to free-fall in November 1965 and was delivered to the Waddington Wing in September 1966. Exchanged with the Cottesmore Wing in April 1968, 445 moved with the Wing to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus in January 1969. In January 1975, 445 returned with No 35 Squadron to its new base at Scampton. 445 was loaned to Waddington for three months in 1977, was transferred to No 230 OCU in October 1978, and returned to No 35 Squadron in July 1981 only to be transferred to No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron at Waddington that November. In May 1982, 445 returned to Woodford for conversion to a K2 tanker and was delivered to No 50 Squadron in July. In March 1984, 445 was flown to Lyneham for crash rescue training.
