Avro Blue Steel stand-off bomb undergoing service by a ground crew member wearing a protective suit. The Stentor rocket engine used kerosene with high-test peroxide (HTP) as the oxidant, the latter being very corrosive and difficult to handle. For example, HTP and de-icing fluid when together spontaneously combusted! The aircraft is XM570. In the middle ground is Vulcan B2 Blue Steel XM571. Identification of 570 courtesy Craig Bulman, author of The Vulcan B.Mk2 from a Different Angle >>
